Each turn and twist is carefully placed, keeping the narrative relentlessly engaging without ever feeling forced. In the Darkness of Shards by Catherine Anne Castillo

Image
This poetry collection reads as an emotionally intense, cohesive journey through hurt, confusion, and gradual self-reclamation. The voice feels intimate and confessional, inviting readers into the speaker’s inner world without requiring them to know any specific backstory. Tone and accessibility   The overall tone is vulnerable and direct, making the poems easy to connect with. The language is clear, which helps the emotional arc land strongly. Thematic focus   The book is on themes of love, disillusionment, loss, and healing after a painful relationship. There is a steady movement from idealisation toward awareness and, finally, a sense of returning to oneself. Reading experience I t feels less like a loose collection and more like a narrative in verse, which can be very satisfying if someone wants to follow an emotional story. The sustained intensity may be heavy, but for those who have experienced similar dynamics, it is likely to feel validating and cathartic.

Unspoken Feelings by Chetna Bhatia

Image
This book feels like a pocket-sized diary of love, where every page whispers instead of shouts. The micro poems may be small in length, but the emotions they carry linger long after you turn the page. Micro form and style    - Most pieces stay within a few lines, almost like romantic snapshots, proving how little language is needed to convey genuine feeling when each word is carefully chosen. - The micro form works beautifully here: there is no clutter, no over-explanation, just distilled emotions that land with surprising clarity. Sweet romantic tone   - The verses have a gentle, “light read” quality—ideal for readers who want romance that soothes rather than overwhelms. - Even when the poems touch on heartbreak or distance, the language remains soft, offering hope and warmth instead of bitterness. Heart‑touching moments    - Many poems capture familiar but easily overlooked moments—a shared silence, a remembered touch, an unfinished conversat...

Additionally, it teaches to admire moments of beauty in life and sparks resilience in difficult times. A Personal Note on Poetic Style As someone who enjoys poetry based on lush metaphors and surprising imagery, I found Light Beneath The Lids  quite a lot straightforward and abstract. However, I personally enjoyed 'One Touch,' and 'In the Twilight' a lot. Final Thoughts Light Beneath The Lids is a beautifully crafted collection for those who appreciate honest and heartfelt poetry with lyrical grace. I found it a bit deviating from metaphorical aspect but despite, it is amus...

Introduction Unmuted is a beautiful mixture of memoir and poetry, unfurling the complexities of identity and society.  My Rating-  ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐/5 Major Themes Most of the poems revolve around topics such as identity, trauma, loss, and belonging. They do not shy away from putting light upon issues of race, family, masculinity, and privilege through vivid imagery and openness. The Possessing Hour: A Short Horror Story Collection by Jeremy John Hayes

Image
My Rating- ⭐⭐⭐⭐ From the very first story, this collection had me hooked. What impressed me most was how quickly the atmosphere set in — the abandoned, resurrecting house felt like a character in itself, glaring back at the protagonist. That opening was chilling in the best way, and it established the tone of the collection beautifully. What I enjoyed throughout the stories is how you balance the ordinary with the uncanny. Everyday details — a street, a family, a casual setting — are woven together with something sinister lurking beneath. That mix makes the horror feel uncomfortably close to real life, which is exactly what a good short horror story should do. I also liked that the narratives didn’t always rely on jump-scare type shocks, but instead built slow dread and unease, allowing the reader’s imagination to do half the work. It reminded me of classic ghost stories while still feeling modern and fresh. On a personal note, I found myself pausing after a couple of stori...
